Michael Bell, M.Sc.

Michael is a passionate environmentalist and engineer with a love for data science. His professional experience as a project engineer and a water loss consultant have equipped him to be flexible, interpersonal and excellent at time management. He is well versed in hydraulic engineering, with proficient experience in non-revenue water loss and asset management of transmission mains and force mains. Michael has a MSc in Urban Water Engineering and Management where he excelled at water quantity modelling and risk assessment projects using software such as MIKE FLOOD and MIKE URBAN. He also discovered a newfound interest in addressing impacts placed upon the environment and ecosystems from urbanization and coastal infrastructure.

This led to an internship at DHI A/S where he investigated how sediment-bacteria interactions could have an influence on marine bathing water quality. The research resulted in strong familiarity in modelling with MIKE Software, especially with hydrodynamic, sediment/mud transport and environmental/ecological models. In fact, he developed a MIKE ECO Lab template capable of improving conventional bathing water quality models. Additionally, Michael has experience generating maps in ArcGIS, modelling water distribution systems with EPANET and analyzing/visualizing data in Python.
